Illinois State Representative
Prior to being appointed to the General Assembly in January 2019, Representative Yehiel “Mark” Kalish has been advising nonprofit organizations, healthcare facilities, educational entities, and financial service companies on government affairs — and helping them raise capital — for more than a dozen years.
Before co-founding his current business development company, the S4 Group, Yehiel served as both Vice President and National Director of Government Affairs of Agudath Israel of America, a national advocacy and community organization. Using his strong relationships in government and his management expertise, he facilitated tens of millions of dollars in state and federal aid to communities in need nationwide, earning numerous professional and community awards.
Currently, Yehiel presides over the 16th House district in Illinois, covering portions of Skokie, Lincolnwood, Morton Grove, and neighboring Chicago. Bringing his vast knowledge of public policy and the legislature with him to Springfield, Yehiel has already begun crafting and passing critical legislation to better the community and improve the lives of 16th District constituency.
Matters such as mental health parity and accessibility, ameliorating the burden of prescription drug costs for Illinoisans, creating improvements in the treatment of domestic and sex abuse victims, as well as combating the staggering rise of hate and bigotry in Illinois are a few of the main issues Yehiel intends to target throughout his tenure.
Yehiel lives in Chicago with his wife and six children. He earned his Rabbinical Ordination from Hebrew Theological College, Master’s in Public Administration from Walden University, and most recently a certificate of Executive Leadership from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.
